"Some of them are so beautiful, engaging, deep and touching.. Some are truly great guides for active ageing. Reading all the entries made me feel very happy and very privilege."
This was the comment from one of the jury members of the inaugural Jasmina Awards 2019, which invited short story and poem submissions from people aged 60 years and above residing in Malaysia.
From the kickstart of the Awards in early July right up till the closing date for entry on 1st September 2019, the Jasmina Awards Team received 33 short stories and 22 poems, making it a grand total of 55 entries. The oldest participant aged 90 years, while two were in their 80s and eight in their 70s. 44 out of the 55 entries were written by females.
The favourite category for short stories was 'Journeys' followed by 'My Malaysian Story', while 'Love' was the preferred category for poems. To all participants, thank you for sharing your stories and poems. We really appreciate the time and effort you put in to your writings.
Jury members are currently evaluating and finalising the results of each category, and it is a tough decision indeed to choose the winners given the many high quality and heartfelt stories and poems. Participants will be informed of the results by 12th September 2019.
We would like to warmly welcome everyone to the Jasmina Awards Ceremony on 16th September 2019 (10.00am - 12.30pm) at Intermark KL, to celebrate all experiences and active aging together on a momentous occasion. Prizes will be given out to winners of each category, and shortlisted contributors will be invited to read an extract of their writings.
The journey does not end at Jasmina Awards Ceremony 2019, as the contributions and feedback indicates that there is much talent and wealth of wisdom that can be shared through this platform. Do stay tuned for further updates and the publishing of the shortlisted entries on this website!
