Jasmina Awards 2021 Officialy Closed

We have now officially closed entries for the Jasmina Awards 2021.

Thank you for an overwhelming number of entries this year. Shortlisting will be announced in August 2021. So, stay tuned on this site for announcements.

We have received a total of 125 entries from 2 April to 4 June 2021:

Rules and More

RULES

  1. Submissions are accepted via online only at jasmina@diversecity.my

  2. Entries must be received on or before the deadline date by 4th June 2021.

  3. All submitted works must be original, and all rights must be wholly owned by the writer(s).

  4. The material should be submitted with standard font, spacing and margin (Times New Roman is a preferred font, but not required). 

  5. Name, title, age, gender, city, email address and phone number must be included upon submitting the material.


ELIGIBILITY

  1. All writers at least 60 years of age are eligible.

  2. All writers could be Malaysian citizens but as well as refugees, immigrants, and stateless living in Malaysia.

  3. The material submitted can be either in English or Malay.

  4. Work and intellectual property must be wholly owned and submitted by the writer(s). The individual submitting must hold any rights and are not already on the public platform.


CATEGORIES

  1. Micro Story. It is a story of up to 150 words. This category is a demanding and exciting category that invites you to choose your words while telling your authentic journey story wisely.

  2. Photo Story. This category is an imaginary category. Please present the photo at the beginning of your story and, in up to 1000 words, take us to the journey behind the photo.

  3. Short Story. It is a story of up to 2500 words. This inspiring category allows you to deep dive into your experiences, describe them generously and share them with us.

  4. Poem. It can be rhythmic, or metric or haiku or free verse – anything you wish. The only important thing is that it shares your ideas, emotions, and imagery through the journey.


CRITERIA FOR WINNERS

  1. The winners and top finalists will be contacted by the team representatives.

  2.  Contestants may be required to submit further information to assist in the judges’ verification of eligibility. 

  3. We reserve the right to amend these rules at any time.

Imran Ahmad

Apart from having several blue suits and a corporate day job, Imran Ahmad is also an almost-but-not-quite famous writer.  His first book, The Perfect Gentleman, has been praised by many newspapers as well as O, The Oprah Magazine, and has propelled him to many appearances on television and at literary festivals including Edinburgh, Sydney, Bali, Perth, Byron Bay, Dubai and Chicago. He currently lives in Kuala Lumpur.

Viji Krishnamoorthy

Viji Krishnamoorthy loves the written word and was a freelance writer and wrote for amongst others, Going Places (MAS inflight magazine), Marie Claire, Her World and Journal One. She is the co-editor and has contributed a story to the recently published The Lockdown Chronicles, an anthology of 19 Malaysian voices. She currently contributes to Mynd.Asia (digital magazine) and has another piece of fiction due to be published in the third quarter of 2021.

Meera Vijayendra

Meera, a lawyer by training, is an arts and entertainment professional with over 25 years’ experience in the arts and culture industry, having worked throughout the Asia Pacific region.  She has hands-on expertise managing a diverse portfolio of projects and clients in several international locations; financial and managerial experience over multiple jurisdictions; festival production, consulting and event management expertise across Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Raymund Jagan

Raymund is a licensed counsellor and also a board member with the Malaysian Board of Counsellors. Raymund is an activist and trainer in social work and counselling. His interests include issues concerning child protection, domestic violence and mental health. He currently teaches in a social work course at the Methodist College KL and is a volunteer counsellor at the Selayang Hospital's Mentari Centre, which provides mental health services for the public.

Jasmina Kuka

Jasmina is co-founder of the Jasmina Awards that aims to promote active ageing through writing. She published numerous academic papers, articles for newspapers and magazines and Fast When Walking Uphill - travel journey of the women (herself) who travels the world on her own. She has been living and working in Malaysia for 5.5 years and she calls our beautiful country her home.
